Designer's Bio

Jewelry Designer Eero Hintsanen graduated from the School of Goldsmithing of the Lahti Institute of Design in 1998. He also spent one year studying jewelry design in Germany. Eero started his own jewelry company in 1999, and at the same time, worked professionally in the field of jewelry, as well as teaching jewelry courses at the Institute of Design in Lahti. He is also a member of Group X8, which produces and promotes contemporary Finnish jewelry.

Eero has been the recipient of four prestigious grants from the Finnish Cultural Foundation (2005, 2003, and 1999); the Arts Council of Hame (2005 and 2004); the Institute of Design, Lahti (1997); and The Finnish Goldsmith Association (1995); as well as Japan’s Opus Design Award (2003). Recent exhibitions have included "X8 - Jewelry from the House of the Goldsmiths" and "Väki Vahva" with fashion designer Tanja Rovio, for the Design Forum Finland, Helsinki, Finland (2004 and 2005); "3 x 5", Bad Doberan, Germany (2003); Midora Design Award, Leipzig, Germany (2000); and "SILVER `99", Legnica, Poland.

In addition to designing jewelry that is seen in Europe and abroad, Eero Hintsanen collaborates with fashion designers to create unique projects.

Fashion Designer Tanja Rovio is pursuing her Master’s degree in Fashion Design at the University of Art and Design, Helsinki, Finland. In 1998, she won the third prize of the Shinkenchiku Residential Competition from Japan Architect Magazine. Tanja has also been the recipient of The Foundation of Jenny and Antti Wihuri Scholarship (2003 and 2004); The Finnish Cultural Foundation Scholarship (2003); and The Art Committee of the State of Finland Scholarship (2000).

Recent exhibitions have included "Väki Vahva" with jewelry designer Eero Hintsanen, for the Design Forum Finland, Helsinki, Finland (2004); the "Art Café Ruoste" group exhibition in Kuhmo, Finland (2003); and the “Jumalan selän takana - Behind the Back of God" exhibition with fashion designer Sari Hirvonen in Laterna Magica Gallery, Helsinki, Finland (2000).

Tanja is a freelance designer and journalist and the owner of Turhuuksien Rovio. She resides in Helsinki, Finland.
